Our 3 and 4-year-old children participate in STEM-X classes run by our specialist teachers in the Swift Science and Technology Centre. As part of this curriculum, children gain valuable experience in Science, Robotics, Construction and Technology programs which are based on the Early Years Learning Framework that children are confident and involved learners.
Our language and cultural appreciation specialist programs are introduced as part of the ELC curriculum from Kindergarten. Mandarin lessons are delivered by specialist teachers and support the learning outcome that children are connected with and contribute to their world.
Our Creative Arts program is taught by Ms. Pat Barbieri, Director of Early Learning. Children participate in Visual Art, Movement and Out and About programs and are encouraged to develop a strong sense of identity through artistic expression through a variety of mediums.
Our After School Care program provides children with the opportunity to continue their play-based learning outcomes through a broad range of activities that develop our students’ imagination, individuality, problem solving skills and emotional wellbeing.
Our Junior School offers a broad range of sporting opportunities for students from Prep to Year 6. With a proud and rich history of sporting success, participating in sport has always been an integral part of the culture at Toorak College. With more than 27 sports on offer, students are empowered to participate and thrive in the sports they love.
Students participate in a range of specialist subjects, each taught by experts in their field. Science is offered to Junior School students, developing inquisitive thinking skills and opening their eyes to the world of science. With the recent build of the Swift Science Centre, Toorak College offers student exposure to world-class facilities. The architectural, double story design is luxuriously fitted with ultra-modern science labs.
In the Junior School, students participate in daily activities that focus on specific aspects of health and wellbeing, from physical activity to practising mindfulness, kindness, empathy, and gratitude. Kindness club is one initiative which allows students to write letters of gratitude and appreciation to their peers.
At Toorak College, we believe that music is an integral part of education and life. Music participation fosters creativity, collaboration and improves cognitive function. Music education at Toorak College encourages a strong sense of community, and encourages the pursuit of excellence. We believe it is integral to provide students with the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop their identities.
Toorak College competes in the Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) Interschool Sport program which provides students with the opportunity to participate in weekly sport competitions. Our Athletics team trains up to three times a week in Terms 1 and 3 and students from Year 7 – Year 12 are encouraged to be involved.
Our Academic curriculum in the Senior Years is delivered through innovative and collaborative teaching. The Swift Science and Technology Centre is designed to amplify our teaching practices and provides an innovative learning space for our Science subjects including Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Psychology.
Students have significant academic growth opportunities through the use of state-of-the-art facilities and personalized extension programs. Our STEM program promotes the value of Mathematics and Technology subjects and the pathways these create for our students in this age of digital innovation.
At Toorak, over 84% of our Senior School students participate in our sport program. From water sports to aerobics, we have over 25 sports on offer for our students to participate in, including after school swim squad training.
Health and wellbeing is integral to all that we do at Toorak College. Every Senior student tracks and monitors their own personal growth and development via the Flourishing program, where they set their own health and wellbeing goals and are provided with support and guidance in how they work towards these goals.
Our students are encouraged to participate in our Music Program, which nurtures leadership and teamwork skills, provides a sense of belonging and encourages confidence in performing. Each year our Senior students are invited to compete in our annual Battle of the Bands competition which encourages students from Year 7 to Year 12 to present an instrumental or voice performance.
