The Greatest Showman has captivated the students of Toorak College this Term. It’s signature anthem ‘This is Me’ is regularly hummed by our girls as they walk through the Cloisters and is often heard playing in the dance studio and the music centre. There is no doubt that The Greatest Showman is a fun movie with memorable music, but what makes it stand out is the compelling plot and the many lessons that can be found throughout.
I'm marching on to the beat I drum. I'm not scared to be seen, I make no apologies. This is me.Lettie Lutz
During adolescent years, there is often an increase in the amount of pressure that friends and classmates exert on their peers to conform. The Greatest Showman reminds us that it is ok to be unique, that you should be proud of who you are and that no matter what, there is a place for you.
No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else.P.T.Barnum
P.T. Barnum's story is a rag-to-riches one. He had big dreams and he chased them with determination and passion. It reminds us that we must all 'dream big' and that success stems from one's own ambition.
Fortune always favours the brave.P.T. Barnum
Every day we encourage our girls to step outside their comfort zone, to be bold and to embrace challenges and opportunities. When you take risks, criticism will often follow and while it is easy to dismiss the criticism that you don’t like, sometimes, if you look at it from another perspective, it can be helpful.
The noblest art is that of making others happy.P.T. Barnum
As P.T Barnum chased fame, fortune and popularity, he disregarded his loved ones and tossed them to the side. He learnt that we are not remembered by what we do but by what we give and how we treat others. It is important to always take the time to appreciate the people around you and let them know how grateful you are to have them in your life.
